With Akbank’s donation of financial transaction data, we were able to study a stream of research topics regarding banking customer behavior.

How do customers pick where they shop? Do they shop close to home or to work? Does distance play a role? Does the category of shopping (food, gas, restaurant or entertainment, household items) relate to where and how far they travel to shop? We seek answers to these questions by trying to validate some well-known patronization model from the location analysis and marketing literature.
